Think Tank has unveiled its updated Shape Shifter 25L and 37L backpacks, which are engineered to offer photographers unparalleled versatility, whether they are on assignment, transporting equipment between locations, or embarking on long-distance journeys. These new designs cater particularly to the dynamic needs of photojournalists, while also providing a robust solution for any photographer requiring secure and readily accessible storage for extensive gear.
The core innovation of the Shape Shifter backpacks lies in their interior design, which departs from conventional rigid dividers. Instead, the backpacks utilize an array of reconfigurable gear pouches and hold-down straps, giving photographers complete control over their equipment organization while maintaining optimal protection. This modular approach allows for seamless transitions between maximum security—when pouches are used—and rapid accessibility—by relying on Velcro straps. The absence of a fixed divider system also enables photographers to adjust their kit's orientation, either vertically or horizontally, to best suit their workflow. Additionally, the backpacks feature quick-access front-side pockets, designed to accommodate lenses up to a 70-200mm f/2.8, facilitating swift equipment retrieval.
Functionally, both the 25L and 37L versions share a suite of features including a rain cover, a detachable waist belt, a laptop sleeve, various attachment points for tripods, a pass-through slot for luggage handles, a water bottle pocket, a concealed security pocket, and a dedicated business card holder. Think Tank emphasizes that these new models also offer enhanced comfort compared to their predecessors. The primary distinction between the two lies in their overall size and carrying capacity. Notably, both backpacks can be significantly compressed when empty, thanks to their flexible internal structure, which features only small, removable dividers to prevent items from bumping. Each model also includes a compression strap to further streamline unused sections of the bag. The 25L model is specified to carry one or two standard camera bodies, two to three lenses (including a 70-200mm f/2.8), and a 15-inch laptop, weighing approximately 1.8 kilograms when empty. The larger 37L version is designed for one or two gripped camera bodies (such as a Canon EOS R1 or Nikon Z9), two to three lenses (including a 300mm f/2.8 prime), and a 16-inch laptop.
These innovative backpacks represent a significant advancement in photographic gear transport, offering flexibility and protection that empowers photographers to adapt to any situation. By prioritizing user customization and quick access, Think Tank reinforces its commitment to supporting professionals in their craft, ensuring that photographers can focus on capturing moments without concern for their equipment's safety or accessibility.
