Gnarls Barkley Announces New Album 'Atlanta' After 18-Year Hiatus

Instructions

Gnarls Barkley, the acclaimed musical partnership of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse, has officially declared the release of a new album titled 'Atlanta'. This highly anticipated work, set to launch on March 6 via the Atlantic-affiliated label 10k Projects, follows an 18-year hiatus since their last joint studio project. The lead single, 'Pictures,' is now available, offering fans a glimpse into their renewed collaboration.

The inspiration behind 'Pictures' harks back to Green's formative years. He revealed in a press statement that the track draws from his memories of traversing Atlanta's MARTA public transit system during his middle school days. He recounted an anecdote where his principal would frequently send him home early on Fridays, leading him to spend hours riding the train from 8 AM to 2:30 PM.

While Gnarls Barkley has been inactive since their 2008 album 'The Odd Couple,' both artists have pursued successful solo careers. Green released his sixth studio album, 'CeeLo Green is Thomas Calloway,' in 2020, following 'Heart Blanche' (2015) and 'CeeLo's Magic Moment' (2012). He also served as a judge on 'The Voice' and contributed to tracks by artists like Eminem and T.I. Danger Mouse, on the other hand, has been prolific with collaborative projects, including albums with Sparklehorse, Daniele Luppi, and Karen O, most recently releasing 'Cheat Codes' with Black Thought in 2022.

This reunion signifies not just a return for Gnarls Barkley but a testament to the enduring power of artistic collaboration and personal storytelling. The new album 'Atlanta' promises to blend their signature sounds with fresh perspectives, reminding us that true creative synergy can transcend time and individual endeavors, bringing forth something uniquely resonant and inspiring.
